Q. How long have you worked at Tidcombe?
I've been part of the Tidcombe crew for 3 years now—though, honestly, there are days when it feels like much longer (in a good way, I promise!)
Q. Do you lead a subject?
I wear a few hats at Tidcombe! I lead Writing, Reading, Geography, History, and Well-being, and I also help out with Safeguarding, Trip Compliance, and First Aid. So, you could say I keep pretty busy.
Q. Do you have a favourite subject?
I can't say I have a single favorite subject—I’m a fan of History, Geography, PE, RE, Science, and PSHE. Funny enough, when I was younger, Maths was my go-to, but these days I’ve really come around to enjoying English too. Turns out, I just can’t pick one!
Q. Have you had any careers aside from teaching?
I’ve had quite an eclectic career before teaching. I’ve worked in factories, cinemas, gyms, football clubs, a bank, a campsite in France, and even for the Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. I’ve also taught English to foreign students, and back when I was still in school, I juggled jobs as a paperboy, waiter, and dishwasher. So, I’ve pretty much tried my hand at a little bit of everything.
Q. What is your favourite book?
I don’t have a single favourite book—my favourites are more like a collection of cherished memories tied to where I read them, their impact on me, or what was happening in my life at the time. A few that stand out are The Understory, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Birdsong, As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, and Children of Time. I also have a soft spot for non-fiction like Born to Run and Sapiens. It’s less about picking just one and more about the stories, ideas and concepts that have stuck with me.
Q. What makes Tidcombe special?
Tidcombe Primary school is special because of its vibrant community spirit, where each student’s curiosity is nurtured, creativity is celebrated, all the staff care and every day is an adventure in learning and growing. Being surrounding by green hills, a canal and nature is also wonderful.
Q. Recommend one thing to do in the area for someone who has recently moved here.
If you’ve just moved to the area and love the great outdoors, you absolutely have to check out the old railway line and canal for a run. It’s flat and perfect for setting your own pace, with stunning views and wildlife to keep you company (or give you a little surprise). Not up for running? No worries—take a leisurely stroll along the canal and treat yourself to a pitstop at one of the charming pubs along the way.
