Meet the Staff

Q. How long have you worked at Tidcombe?

I have just started working at Tidcombe School as a part-time Teaching Assistant, but I have been volunteering for the school for 3 years, running Tidcombe Toddler Group in the school hall on Wednesday mornings.

Q. Do you lead a subject?

I don't lead a subject, but I do have a passion for reading and helping children to develop a love of books.

Q. Do you have a favourite subject?

My favourite primary school subjects are English and History, but at college I chose to study Business Studies, Psychology and Communication Studies A Levels. I then enjoyed studying Criminology and Psychology at university.

Q. Have you had any careers aside from teaching?

I have worked in Liznojan Bookshop in town for the last five years, which I love. I had many interesting jobs before I had children, including working in London as a secretary, working for the Police in Essex, Wales, Devon and Somerset, the Environment Agency in Nottingham and working in Procurement (purchasing goods and services and setting up contracts).

Q. What is your favourite book?

I read a lot and could not pick a single favourite book, but when I was a child my favourite book was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  I now love to read historical fiction, mythology, folklore and fantasy books.

Q. What makes Tidcombe special?

I have had children at Tidcombe School for almost 10 years now and it is a special place.  I love how the school community of children, parents, teachers and staff are all so supportive and friendly. Everyone seems to know each other, which is lovely.

Q. Recommend one thing to do in the area for someone who has recently moved here.

We are very lucky here in Tiverton to have lots of beautiful places to go to enjoy nature, so make the most of those. What I would also suggest, if you are new to town (or not), is to go to the bookshop (Liznojan) as it is a real community hub in Tiverton!  People often make new friends in there and you can find out about local events and clubs, as well as finding lots of amazing books and having "the best cup of coffee in town!"
